Mmmph. I think my first How-To over at Bagelwood might have to be “How to compliment a design.” Or maybe just “How to not make other people frown and say that they have to go.”
So an unnamed individual who I first met not too long ago instant messaged me. He started off by asking me about my dad and things like that, which I’m used to by now. The conversation continued with him telling me about some of the web design woes he was going through and asking for a few tips until he decided to compliment my site, Bagelwood.

That was a nice thing to say. I smiled and typed a thank you. The Bagelwood site is obviously unfinished, but I can appreciate a nice compliment. He continued,

Oh. Ohoho. There’s a term for that kind of compliment that’s eluding me right now. I’ve never been a fan of people critiquing other peoples’ unfinished work as it was, but this just strikes me a a little bit of an under-the-belt, snippity, and if I’m permitted to say it, incorrect comment.
I could’ve lectured about how professional and clean my site currently is and how much more so it will be when it’s finished on top of it, or I could’ve rattled off my own critique of this gentleman’s own site, or passive aggressively made a comment on how lovely it was for him to give me some tips after coming to me for advice and help on his stuff. But I didn’t. Instead I just told him that I was going to go.
Mmmph. On the positive side, this does give me new motivation to finish the site.
